Tickets for Powerball® from The National Lottery are on sale now, giving UK players the chance to play the world’s biggest rolling jackpot game for the very first time. The first UK Powerball ticket was sold in a shop called Sewell On The Go in Pocklington, York at just after 5am. The first online ticket was bought on The National Lottery App by a keen player in Brighton at 5.54am.
Players have until 11.55pm on Wednesday 22 July to secure their chance to be part of Powerball history, ahead of the first draw at around 4am (UK time) on Thursday 23 July. Following the launch, draws will take place three times a week from the Powerball studio in Florida.
How will Powerball work in the UK?
Powerball is launching in the UK in partnership with the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) – a non-profit association owned and operated by its member lotteries.
With 48 US-based lotteries already participating in Powerball, Allwyn is launching a tailored version of the game for UK players.
Priced at £4 per line, UK players will play for a chance to win the shared jackpot by matching five main numbers plus the Powerball, with the jackpot paid to UK winners over 30 years.
The UK game features an additional ‘Match 2 main numbers’ prize tier, available only to UK players, which offers a fixed prize of £8.
The ‘Match 5 main numbers’ tier also offers a fixed prize of £1 million, while all other prize tiers offer estimated prizes, which vary depending on the numbers drawn and the number of winners in each tier.
Players choose five main numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball number from 1 to 26, or can opt for a Lucky Dip.
For the first UK draw, tickets are available to buy online and in-store until 11.55pm on Wednesday 22 July.
Thereafter, tickets are available online and in-store until 11.55pm the night before each draw. Draws take place around 4am UK time on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from the Powerball studio in Florida.
