FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)– A local community is getting some recognition from the Colorado Lottery for being creative and effective when it comes to spending grant money.

Fruita is one of 11 cities in Colorado getting a Starburst Award from the state lottery, which is calling the city the cream of the crop.

This comes after the Lower Little Salt Wash Trail project received more than $300,000 in grant money from the lottery.

According to lottery officials, Fruita made the top of the list because of the difference the trail has made in the community.

Officials will be visiting in September to fomally congratulate the town.
