New Mexico Lottery Clears Senate in Effort to Remove Profit Mandate

A New Mexico Lottery bill that would remove their 30% profit mandate has cleared the Senate. Only one senator vote against the measure.

A few changes were made to the bill in order to get its passage. Notably, the lottery must transfer $40 million to good causes in 2019-2020, a number that will increase the year after. If the lottery fails to deliver, the profit mandate would immediately be reinstated.

The bill now has to pass the house, where it has stalled in the past.
