After the New York Senate included mobile wagering in a proposed budget, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has stated that he is against allowing people to bet on their phones. Sports betting is already legal in four casinos in New York.
The governor believes that the additional revenue gain for the state does not justify the societal harm that comes with allowing people to bet at any time or place they like. “Sports betting, first of all, does not make you that much money,” Cuomo said. “They raised something like $13 million — $13 million is a rounding error in our state.”
