Matt Strawn, Iowa Lottery’s new CEO, told the House Oversight Committee that the lottery needed to be able to sell over the internet. He explained that future sales will likely downturn over the next few years if the cash-only business does not modernize its operations given the societal shift – particular with millennials – towards e-commerce.
Chairwoman Mary Ann Hanusa acknowledged the need for change, but said that that there needs to be safeguards in place before allowing the lottery to sell online.
