Throughout this run, over 43.7 million winning tickets were sold across various prize tiers, including 69 second-tier prizes of $1 million or more.
Additionally, a total of 166 tickets across the country matched four white balls and the Mega Ball to win the third-tier prize. Alabama’s lack of a state-run lottery is costing the state hundreds of millions annually, according to Senator Greg Albritton. Albritton has introduced multiple gambling and lottery bills, highlighting potential revenue streams such as operator license fees and ticket taxes, which could contribute to an estimated yearly income of nearly $1 billion for the state. However, implementing a lottery would require constitutional amendments, and while the Senate has approved lottery bills, they have yet to be voted on in the House. Alabama is now among the last five states without a lottery.
