La Fleur’s Magazine’s new series—Quote of the Week—features interviews with lottery directors about what’s ahead for their organizations in fiscal 2022. We will feature a different director each week. This week we are spotlighting Harold Mays, Acting Director, Illinois Lottery.
What’s ahead for your lottery in FY22?
“The last 18 months have allowed the Illinois Lottery to show its resilience and resolve. It has also made us ask the questions, ‘What did we learn and what else could we be doing differently and better for our players, retailers and the community?’ In FY22 we will focus on maintaining the momentum of the record year we had in FY21 by leveraging those lessons learned. We are developing new innovative products in our FastPlay line of games, modernizing our current portfolio of games, improving our retail service and claims processing, growing our retail footprint with CVS and Walmart and responsibly growing our iLottery platform.”
What book are you currently reading?
“I’m an avid audiobook fan and keep no fewer than 10 in rotation at a time. The Harvard Business Review has a series called ‘10 Must Reads,’ articles that they compiled on various topics, President Obama’s A Promised Land, James Clear’s Atomic Habits, Alex Haley’s The Autobiography of Malcolm X, narrated by Laurence Fishburne and Stan Lee’s Alliances: A New Reality, to name a few.”
Where do you plan to vacation in the next six months?
“Montreal.”
