The Massachusetts State Lottery has added a mobile cashing feature to its Mass Lottery app, giving prize winners the ability to claim eligible prizes without having to visit a Lottery claim center, an innovative function that also provides environmental benefits.
“The introduction of mobile cashing is a terrific advancement for the Lottery as we adapt to new technological trends that have reshaped this industry,” said State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg, Chair of the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission. “It not only accommodates our customers, but has the added benefit of positive environmental impacts by eliminating unnecessary driving and production of paper checks.”
The mobile cashing feature gives customers the ability to claim prizes of $601 to $5,000 securely through the Mass Lottery app and receive their winnings electronically to their bank account.
“We are thrilled to offer this convenience to our customers, including particularly some who live more than an hour and a half from the nearest claim center,” said Michael Sweeney, Executive Director of the Mass Lottery. “As the customer adoption rate increases, the cumulative long-term benefits of this feature have the potential to be enormous.”
The Lottery successfully processed its first mobile ticket cashing transaction in May and gradually expanded its availability leading up to this full launch. Over 930 prize claims have already been fulfilled through the app, resulting in deposits of over $1.1 million in prizes to Lottery winners.
In 2020, the Mass Lottery added a ticket scanning feature to its app, allowing customers to scan tickets to see if they are winners. Customers who have already registered to use this function now have access to mobile cashing. Over 44,300 users have registered to use these features.
The Mass Lottery app is available for Android and iOS devices.
