The Massachusetts State Lottery set all-time weekly sales records for Instant Tickets and Keno in the final week of 2021, contributing to record weekly sales of $145,329,765 for all products.
“Thanks to the Lottery team, our retail partners, and most importantly, our customers we have been able to achieve another record setting performance,” said State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg, chair of the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission. “Despite a challenging business environment over the last two years, the Lottery has been able to surpass previous records set and we hope to build upon on that success this year.”
“These accomplishments are the result of a collaborative effort across all areas of our organization and I am extremely proud of our team members for their contributions to our success,” said Michael Sweeney, Executive Director of the Mass Lottery. “These results were driven by a thoughtful, analytical approach to all areas of our business such as new ticket development, managing inventory and distribution, new promotions and enhancing digital and social media while making operational adjustments prompted by the pandemic. We are very pleased to be able to produce this critical funding for all cities and towns across Massachusetts.”
Instant Ticket sales for the 7-day period from Sunday, December 26, 2021 through Saturday, January 1, 2022 totaled $97,880,275, topping the previous high of $93,165,630 established during the equivalent week a year ago.
Keno sales for the week eclipsed the $25 million mark for the first time ever, ringing in at $25,797,048, surpassing the previous high of $24,476,399 recorded during the week ending March 20, 2021.
The record setting figures for Instant Tickets and Keno, combined with $9,229,340 in Powerball sales fueled by a rising jackpot that reached $500 million for the January 1 drawing, propelled total sales of all products past the previous high of $139,472,003 from the week ending January 16, 2021. That week featured a Mega Millions jackpot of $750 million and a Powerball jackpot of $639.4 million.
