La Fleur’s Magazine’s new series—Quote of the Week—features interviews with lottery directors about what’s ahead for their organizations in fiscal 2022. We will feature a different director each week. This week we are spotlighting Pat McDonald, Executive Director, Ohio Lottery.
What’s ahead for your lottery in FY22?
“The Ohio Lottery is looking forward to building off 2021’s momentum and has a lot in store for 2022! There are some exciting new games coming out that will provide great opportunities to engage with our players and build upon our “live” events on social media. We’re offering our players more ways to win via our MyLotto Rewards club, too. New this year is the ‘$20 Priceless Experiences’ promotion which gives players a 2nd chance to win once-in-a-lifetime sports, music, and adventure experience packages. We’ll also be celebrating our TV game show, Cash Explosion, which turns 35 this year!
Last, but not least, we’re looking forward to introducing sports betting after the recent passage of Ohio House Bill 29 to qualified Ohio Lottery retailers across the state. It will certainly be a lot of effort with the regulatory monitoring that the legislation set forth, but we are excited to bring this new product line to select retailers.
As you can see, there’s a lot to be excited about here at the Ohio Lottery. 2021 definitely set the bar high, but our goal this year is to continue our strong momentum to help provide funding for education in Ohio.”
What book are you currently reading?
“I am currently reading ‘Can’t Hurt Me’ by David Goggins. The biography details the triumphs and struggles of the retired Navy SEAL, and is extremely motivational. This will be my second time reading Goggins’ story.”
Where do you plan to vacation in the next six months?
“In the next few months, I plan to vacation to Florida to visit my family. The reunion has been pushed back several times due to travel restrictions, and general health concerns under the light of COVID-19. I am looking forward to spending quality time with them.”
