La Fleur’s Magazine’s new series—Quote of the Week—features interviews with lottery directors about what’s ahead for their organizations in fiscal 2022. We will feature a different director each week. This week we are spotlighting Norman Lingle, Director, Executive Lottery, South Dakota Lottery.
What’s ahead for your lottery in FY22?
“Our spring months will be an exciting time, highlighted by our review of submissions for our Instant Ticket Print Services Request for Proposal. We’ve enjoyed four consecutive record-breaking years in terms of instant ticket sales, and this RFP will be an integral part in sustaining that success for years to come.
We’ve also established several goals we hope to accomplish within the next 18 months which help ensure the SD Lottery remains a viable and sustainable source of revenue for the state of South Dakota and our beneficiaries. These goals are wide-ranging. Perhaps most importantly, we are looking to invest even more in our employees. Our goals include career enhancement programs and team building activities aimed to provide professional development opportunities and comradery.”
What book are you currently reading?
“I just finished reading Countdown bin Laden: The Untold Story of the 247-Day Hunt to Bring the Mastermind of 9/11 to Justice by Chris Wallace. The level of planning, secrecy, use of technology and teamwork needed to accomplish this mission was incredible.”
Where do you plan to vacation in the next six months?
“My wife Sarah and I will soon become empty nesters with our youngest child graduating from high school in May. We are looking at different options for this fall, but a final destination has not been determined yet. This summer, while we are determining our fall destination, we will be taking full advantage of water recreation activities on Lake Oahe with family.”
