La Fleur’s Magazine’s new series—Quote of the Week—features interviews with lottery directors about what’s ahead for their organizations in fiscal 2023. We will feature a different director each week. This week we are spotlighting Marcus Glasper, Director, Washington’s Lottery.

What’s ahead for your lottery in FY23?

“Washington’s Lottery will be focused on completing its debit card initiative that started in FY22 where we are installing debit card readers on all lottery vending machines. Upon the heels of success with recent changes to our Pick 3 and Hit 5 draw games, we are continuing our efforts to optimize our draw portfolio with potential changes to our flagship draw game Lotto as well as the introduction of a new game.  We’ve also experienced great success with the conversion of one of our regional offices to a retail center, so we are in the initial phases of expanding that business model to other regional offices.”

What book are you currently reading?

“I am reading Caste – The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson, a non-fiction Pulitzer Prize winning book that provides a unique perspective on how the America we see today has been shaped by a hidden caste system that has resulted in inequity and inequality.”

Where do you plan to vacation in the next six months?

“This year my plan is to take a series of smaller, longer weekend type getaways to places like the Oregon coast, the San Juan islands, Napa, and Palm Springs.”
