Atlantic Lottery’s online alc.ca platform and Red Shores Racetrack and Casino in Charlottetown, P.E.I. have both been awarded the RG Check Accreditation, the most comprehensive responsible gambling accreditation program in the world.
The RG Check accreditation is a rigorous and highly respected program offered by the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC), an independent non-profit organization and world leader in the prevention of problem gambling for more than 35 years.
Patrick Daigle, Atlantic Lottery President and CEO, said responsible gambling is one of Atlantic Lottery’s core values and is woven into every game, promotion and advertisement offered to players.
“We’re extremely proud of earning this accreditation as it demonstrates that AL offers some of the best healthy play tools and resources in the world,” Daigle said. “It is thanks to the strong commitment all our employees show to RG and the work they do each day that made it possible.”
The RG Check accreditation is subject to a renewal process every three years. As part of the accreditation process, RGC gives feedback on how the organization can further improve its responsible gambling efforts and programs.
“Atlantic Lottery is and will always be highly committed to continuously improving and evolving our program and practices,” Daigle said. “It took a great deal of hard work and dedication to get our program where it is today, and we have no intention of slowing down any time soon.”
Shelley White, CEO of the Responsible Gambling Council, said building on a long-standing relationship of accreditation with Red Shores Racetrack and Casino, RGC commends Atlantic Lottery for carrying over its commitment to responsible gambling to the alc.ca platform.
“This omni-channel RG Check accreditation represents Atlantic Lottery’s positive contribution to creating a culture of responsible gambling and sustainable play,” said White. “This is a clear demonstration that Atlantic Lottery prioritizes responsible gambling and ensures transparency and player protections are at the core of its operations. RGC is proud to provide continuous support to Atlantic Lottery’s harm minimization efforts.”
Before awarding RG Check accreditation, RGC uses its Standards for iGaming, comprised of nine comprehensive standards and 48 criteria, to help measure the scope and effectiveness of RG programs
on online gambling sites, such as alc.ca. For land-based venues, such as Red Shores Racetrack and Casino, the RG standards are comprised of eight comprehensive standards and 47 criteria.
Some examples of the standards focused on are marketing communications, employee training, and informed decision making and contain criteria such as not marketing to at-risk players or minors, employees understanding key problem gambling and RG concepts, and response rate to player enquiries.
In recognition of Atlantic Lottery’s commitment to responsible gambling, the corporation also holds Level 4 recertification of World Lottery Association’s Responsible Gaming Framework – the highest level of certification available.
