Idaho’s new restriction on bulk lottery ticket purchases takes effect July 1. House Bill 504, signed by Gov. Brad Little on February 26, prohibits a person or people acting in concert from buying more than $5,000 in Idaho Lottery tickets within a 24-hour period, whether the purchases happen in one transaction or across multiple locations.
The law gives the Idaho Lottery authority to deny payment on prizes tied to a bulk purchase transaction and to investigate suspicious buying patterns using purchase records, transaction data, video surveillance, witness statements, and other evidence. The bill’s statement of purpose says the change is meant to deter organized bulk buying and protect fairness and public trust in Idaho Lottery games.
