Spain’s lottery retailer associations plan to protest outside SELAE’s Madrid headquarters on July 9, saying they need urgent measures to protect the commercial network’s economic viability and online-sales independence.
The associations say lottery prices have been unchanged since 2002 and commissions have been largely unchanged for 20 years while operating costs have risen, reducing retailer profitability by about 60%. They also warn that a SELAE online sales monopoly could cost administrations 30% of revenue, and plan to read a manifesto urging SELAE and the Ministry of Finance to negotiate protections for 10,884 lottery sales points and 18,000 jobs.
