Arizona Lottery Explores Potential Partnership with Motor Vehicle Division

The Arizona Lottery is working to cultivate partnerships with other state agencies for mutual benefit. One project currently under development includes testing free-standing lottery vending machines at select Motor Vehicle Division locations. As part of a three-month test program, vending machines will be installed at offices in Glendale and Scottsdale to capture a wider range of audiences in the Phoenix area. This endeavor will serve to enhance player experience outside of traditional Arizona Lottery retailers.

The joint agency program will roll out as Arizona Lottery replaces aging vending machines at current retailers starting in early spring 2017. The chosen vending machine will be IGT’s Gemini Ultra. These updated machines have several features that enhance the customer experience. Players can make quick draw game purchases with one-touch “Quick Pick” buttons. Additional features include enhanced ticket dispensing technology; a built-in media display; eye-catching LED lighting and more. The Gemini Ultras will accept cash only and require age verification through scanning a valid photo identification card or driver’s license. The vending machines and the MVD offices will not be able to make change or payout prizes.

If both agencies see a successful return from the two pilot locations, the partnership will move to implement a full rollout in all MVD locations statewide. The MVD offices will act as a typical Arizona Lottery retailer where they receive 6.5 percent commission on each location’s lottery ticket sales. The MVD offices also qualify for the same sales bonus incentives available to wider retailers who sell high-tier winning tickets. Arizona Lottery appreciates all feedback and suggestions to help make this plan successful.
