Lazlo: Bringing Lottery Play Into A Mobile World

Lazlo326 has introduced Mobile Lottery Plus for a mobile lifestyle. “Lazlo is the first mobile lottery platform that offers secure wager selection, ticket storage, ease of purchase and winner notification—plus added value and fun for every player,” said Art Kiuttu, SVP Lottery & Gaming of Lazlo. “Our solution eliminates friction in the lottery sales process enabling more players to play and lotteries and retailers to grow revenue.”

Lazlo will also be introducing its in-lane solutions to the lottery industry. “We have partnered with the major POS transaction companies, like Verifone, who have payment terminals in most retail locations in North America,” added Kiuttu. “Lazlo can offer a direct link to retailer POS systems without requiring additional hardware or software..

The Lazlo solution simplifies the lottery purchase. “Lazlo eliminates friction from playing lottery games on a mobile device and simplifies the sale for lottery retailers,” explained Kiuttu. “Players can purchase all lottery games, including draw, scratch, reveal and sports, using something with which they are very accustomed—their mobile device. In fact, it is estimated that nearly 95% of consumers on the U.S. between the ages of 18-64 own smartphones.”

Lazlo’s focus groups consisting of regular players, light or lapsed players and non-players responded very favorably to the Lazlo digital lottery mobile app. “They liked that they can take their time and research and determine the games they want to play before visiting the retailer,” said Kiuttu. “This prevents slowing the lines at retail. Since their phones are with them at all times, they have immediate access to their tickets and don’t misplace tickets. When they win a prize, they are notified they’ve won a prize, saving them time checking their tickets.”

Consumer package goods (CPGs) are brought into the equation as a new partner for lotteries. Younger audiences responded very favorably to the valuable free products and discount coupons they receive with purchase.

“They also liked that they can receive digital video tickets, relevant to their interests, in which their numbers are embedded and revealed as they watch the short video clips,” said Kiuttu. “Players can select from dozens of short videos, such as extreme sports videos, a funny cat video, etc. All audiences liked the option to redeem their ticket at retail or convert their lottery prize to a digital gift card from the retailer or from a variety of merchants. Automatic entries into second-chance drawings for experiential prizes provided by CPG partners was very appealing to all audiences because the entry is linked to the purchase and Lazlo eliminates the chance of fraud.”
