Pro-Lite Founder Andy Koah: Three Principled Pillars for Lotteries

Lottery organizations are the only consumer package goods entities that exist solely to profit good causes. That sense of corporate social responsibility is mirrored by many lottery suppliers, such as ProLite, headquartered in Costa Mesa, California.

Pro-Lite President Andy Kaoh sees the mission of the company’s lottery division to support the three principled pillars of the lottery industry: Return to good causes, build goodwill and promote responsible gaming.

Since the beginning, Pro-Lite has accomplished its mission with cutting edge technology and innovative features.

“Before I developed Lottery Jackpot signs, I noticed that incremental sales of jackpots jumped increased as the jackpots rose. I first developed the jackpot sign for the Missouri Lottery in 2000. We noticed that lottery sales accelerated as the players became aware of the jackpots. Players often say ‘I never win,’ but that thinking breaks down as the jackpot increases. If we can meet players at their level of acceptance while they are in the store, we have a better chance of converting the sale.”

That thinking has resulted in nearly two decades of innovation that continues to support the mission of lotteries. The latest iteration of this thinking has led Pro-Lite to develop features such as the Day-of-Drawing option, player proximity sensors and apps that help players seek support for gambling addictions.

The proximity technology also plays a part in leveraging unplanned purchases. “Our displays have smart sign features,” noted Kaoh. The sign senses when a potential player is near and starts a jackpot animation. It is not something that constantly runs and becomes part of your furniture.”

    Full Partnership

Pro-Lite is committed to being a full partner to lottery customers. “We have a three-pronged approach to helping lotteries,” asserted Kaoh. “Number one is that our company is transforming itself and evolving into more of a guarantee type of promotional company. We are here to help lotteries increase sales, while at the same time discourage problem gambling behavior through the use of smart sign apps. This will increase the good will for the lottery along with advertise how much money it raises for good causes.”

Pro-Lite is offering guaranteed results to lotteries. “The first promise is our signs will increase lottery sales by X amount,” declared Kaoh. “The second guarantee is our signs will lower operational costs through the use of energy-efficient technlogy. Just like solar panels, with the signage and advertising package that we select for each lottery, we guarantee to double the ROI of each store owner or the lottery.

“After almost 20 years of experience, we have a very good idea what products stimulate sales and how much they help to increase sales so we are able to make such a guarantee,” added Kaoh. “If I tell a lottery they will get an increase of sales of, say, 5%, and they only have increased sales by 3%, then I will refund the lottery X amount of dollars.”
