BCLC is showcasing two innovations in scratch products that are new for the lottery.
First, it is releasing a scented scratch ticket ($1 Gingerbread Tripler). “This cinnamon-scented ticket evokes warmth and nostalgia for holiday dinners where the kitchen smells like a cornucopia of mouthwatering sweet and savory delights. We can’t wait for players to pick up this sweet holiday treat,” Shirley Park, Senior Product Specialist, Instant Games, BCLC.
The second is the $10 Treasure Tree, which is a die-cut ticket in the shape of a Christmas tree. It is sold flat. Once players get it home, they can build a tree by making three folds and then tucking the folds into slits on the ticket to form a festive 3-D Christmas tree that can be displayed throughout the holiday season.
“This ticket is incremental to our regular ticket line-up, which normally includes 10 tickets. This year we are launching 11 tickets,” Park said. “With the faster pace of sales and new acquisitions to our player base that occurred during the pandemic, we wanted to continue the momentum and keep players engaged by offering more variety, more tickets and innovations this holiday season.”
The lottery is also offering players the 10th Anniversary Edition of the popular Tech the Halls second chance contest. For the 10th anniversary, BCLC has added a special 12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar, which begins on December 25. Players return to the site every day for 12 days to scratch the Advent Calendar for special bonuses and more chances to win.
Each holiday ticket advertises the contents. The lottery is also supporting the Tech the Halls contest with traditional advertising. The contest promotion messaging is “Tech the halls with games so jolly.”
BCLC is also changing a key element of previous campaigns by adding a premium holiday greeting card. “Each year, we provide our retailers with gifting materials so they can put together festive packages of lottery tickets and sell them as bundles. In the past, we have provided customers with cellophane bags, tags, ribbons, and scratchers. This year, in a move towards being more mindful of our social responsibility and impact, we are no longer providing these items. In lieu of this, we created a premium holiday greeting card, made of recycled paper.”
It will be offered at select retailers with the purchase of $25 in Scratch & Win products. The high quality, festive greeting card has pockets inside to hold Scratch & Win tickets for gifting.
